Player Profile
Ian Clough
Solo Trombone
Banding History
Ian started playing the Trombone at Bruntcliffe School, Morley, at the age of 13 for one sole reason, none of the class were allowed to go for lunch until at least one pupil joined the school band!
3 months later Ian had the bug and joined Gomersal Mills Junior Band and within a couple more months was Solo Trombone with the Senior Band.
Two years later, at the tender age of 15, Ian joined The Lockwood Band in Huddersfield, playing his first ever contest, the National Finals (National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain) in the Championship section at the Royal Albert Hall. They managed to come 18th out of 18 but what a way to start your playing career.
After 20 years at Lockwood, Ian joined his local village band here at Drighlington, on Solo Trombone, where he is still enjoying his playing (even though he thinks it seems to be getting harder by the day).
Ian has also been a guiding influence with the Drighlington Youth Band, as a conductor and mentor, for the last 3 years until mid-2009.
Professional
Ian has recently retired from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service after a 32 years service.
Hobbies
A man of simple pleasures, Ian enjoys playing Pool and the occassional beer, Brass Band permitting of course ;)
