Player Profile

Lynne Walsh

Flugel Horn

Banding History

Lynne was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire and is the grandaughter of, the late, Tom F Atkinson, a well known and rspected brass teacher, adjudicator and tutor with the National Youth Band of Great Britain.

It was Tom that first taught Lynne to play, initially on Trombone at the age of 12 and then on Euphonium.

Aged 16, Lynne joined the former Bradford Victoria Band on 2nd Baritone, eventually progressing to Solo Baritone. Lynne remained at Bradford Victoria for 13 years switching to Flugel Horn in the last 2 years.

In 1983 the Bradford Victoria Band was sadly struggling and it was decided that it was best to merge with their old friends at the Drighlington Youth Band, with the older members of the Youth Band and the remaining 10 players of Bradford Victoria joining to form the Drighlington Senior Band. This makes Lynne one of just 5 founder members of the Senior Band still with the band today.

Lynne has been our Flugel Horn player for practically all of her time with the band, with just a brief period on Repiano Cornet.

Hobbies

Lynne enjoys Reading and Dancing.
