Player Profile
Stephanie Evans
Percussion
Banding History
Steph started playing percussion in her school band in Wrexham, North Wales aged 12 because her best friend, another Steph, wanted to.
Entering the world of brass banding at age 15, Steph joined Wem Jubilee Band near Shrewsbury, North Shropshire where she played percussion until she left home to go to Leeds University in 2003.
She continued to play at contests for Wem in her first year of university, making the 250 mile round trip between Leeds and Shropshire for rehearsals in the run up to contests, but eventually the travelling became too much and Steph left Wem in 2005, but still pops back to see them from time to time.
In her second year of university, Steph joined the Leeds University Brass Band and made a lot of good friends, who all played for different brass bands around Yorkshire and, towards the end of 2005, a Drighlington Band member (who also played in the university brass band) asked if she would be interested in the tuned percussion vacancy at Drig. She agreed to go along and see what she thought and the rest, as they say, is history! Thank you Jon Ford!
Steph has always played percussion at Drig, but occasionally "dabbles" on the cornet when percussion isn't needed or at Durham Miners Gala where she doesn't want to lug the large Bass Drum around all day!
