Banding History
Yet another 'foreigner' to arrive in the band, Alex comes from the sunny North East of England where he grew up to be the first person in his family to take up Brass Banding (well, music in general!). He started to play Piano and Violin when he was aged 10, but soon realised there were better instruments in the world and took up Baritone soon after when he was 11.
After a few years playing with the Junior band and the local school orchestra/wind band, Alex started contesting, aged 15, on 1st Baritone with his local brass band, and hasn't looked back since... His most successful time was playing for the BHK Horden Band on Eb Bass from 2003 when they stormed the 1st Section and won the National Finals in Dundee, qualifying again, only 2 years later, in the Championship Section, to play at the Finals at the Royal Albert Hall. Playing on that stage looking out onto an audience so vast, then hearing the last note ring round the hall before an almighty applause, is an experience he won't be forgetting in a hurry!
Since leaving Horden in 2007, Alex decided to make the move back to Solo Euphonium, playing with his original band again before moving down to Yorkshire, in 2007, and settling back on the Baritone seat (with a few instrument changes in between for good measure).
Professional
Alex has worked in Telecoms Industry since leaving College, working in a number of roles looking after residential accounts and now, since moving to Yorkshire, he orders Access circuits from suppliers for business.
Hobbies
"If I ever have any free time away from work and band, I'll let you know!"
